Bio Science for People Seminar


MACFAST (Mar Athanasios College for Advanced Studies Tiruvalla) has launched ‘Project Bio Science for People’ in association with Centre for Environment Development (CED). The project in connection with National Environmental Awareness Campaign themed ‘Forest for Sustainable Livelihood’ has been launched by Dr K.R. Viswambharan, Vice-Chancellor of Kerala Agriculture University. Even though we triggered a revolution in agriculture sector, we need to concentrate on sustainable agriculture practices to attain self-reliance and self-sufficiency to tackle the issue of environmental degradation.  Said Dr K.R. Viswambharan. Promotion of homestead farming is a need of this hour to overcome the crisis of increased inflation and foor price rise. Setting up vegetable garden at every household has become a dire necessity as Kerala has been heavily dependent on various other States for its daily vegetable requirements, he added.


Medicinal Plant Distribution
MACFAST has organized a seminar on Herbal and Medicinal plants to mark this occasion. Prof. Dr. C. Balagopalan led the session. He stressed the importance of herbal medicines and traditional knowledge in Ayurveda. Utilizing the values of traditional wisdom and propagating it uniqueness is very vital. He said.
Dr. Visvambaran inaugurated the herbal medicinal plants distribution.  While addressing farmers, ‘blending of traditional knowledge of farmers with modern bio-science results better output in agriculture. Participation of farmers in modern science should be ensured to accomplish inclusive growth in agriculture sector. Those associated with the field of agriculture should come forward to work with the farmers in the larger interests of strengthening State’s farm sector. He added

Kalpakavadi - Tropical Fruits Orchard

MACFAST students have developed a tropical fruits orchard ‘Kalpakavadi’ in connection with the National Environmental Awareness Campaign’. Students of Management Studies took initiative to prepare the garden as part of their Green Hour initiatives. Rev. Fr. Pradeep Vazhatharamalayil, Principal inaugurated tree planting program. Propagating public awareness on environment conservation should also be given due importance, Such initiatives pave way for creative awareness and active action programs. Students can cherish by such type of environmental activities that adds more value to their education. He said. Diju Alex, Sherin, Vijeth S, George Mathew, Sudeep Chandramana, Shibu Itty Mathew participated.
