Green School Seminar at Rejina Mundhi Upper Primary School

Kids cheered for Green at Rejina Mundhi Upper Primary School, Tiruvalla. The seminar conducted by MACFAST in association with Tiruvalla Municipality as part of its Clean and Green Tiruvalla Project looked very attractive with the dynamic presence and leadership of kids. It has been inaugurated on 10^th August 2011. Mrs. Daisy (Municipal Councilor) presided over the meeting. Mrs. Priya Jeji (Project Coordinator) led the seminar. She dealt with personal hygiene, environmental consciousness and Social Commitment and offered some creative games.

Paul V Mathew (Project Officer, Clean and Green City Project) persuaded students to work for the green earth. While explaining about the role of teachers and students in this effort, he said that students are the citizens of tomorrow; little but great actions of students can make a paradigm shift in the society. Green School Program started at St. George Higher Secondary School Choongappara

Green School Program started at St. George Higher Secondary School Choongappara. Green School Program initiated by MACFAST College in association with Tiruvalla Municipality aims for Developing Green Habits among Students for a Sustainable World. This program has been inaugurated by Fr. Joseph Malayattil (Manager). Mrs. Priya Jeji (Project Coordinator) led the seminar. Seminar comprises of different environmental conservation and personal hygiene aspects. 350 students participated.

Balikamadam Higher Secondary School Tiruvalla

Balikamadam Higher Secondary School Tiruvalla joining hands with Clean and Green City Project by initiating Green School program.  It has been inaugurated by Mrs. Rose Mary (Headmistress) on 28^th July 2011. “Our school has special concern towards environment and our mission incorporated sustainable development. We are always in forefront for developing environmental conservation initiative. The practice put forwarded by us like plastic collection, tree planting campaign, plastic free campus and environmental awareness are ideal models.” She said. Mrs. Priya Jeji (Project Coordinator) led the seminar. Around 800 students participated in the seminar which incorporated film shows, games, competition and activities.

Green School Program has been started at Nicholson Higher Secondary School Tiruvalla on 27^th July 2011. Mrs. Lissy (Headmistress) inaugurated the function. Almost 650 students participated in the seminar which was organized my MACFSAT in association with Tiruvalla Municipality. Mrs. Priya Jeji (Project Coordinator) led the session. It has dealt with personal hygiene, energy conservation, waste management etc. Mrs. Leena Mathew (Secretary) delivered vote of thanks.

Green School Program gets wide attention

Green School Program is getting more attention just after its launch at Mar Thoma Residential Schools Tiruvalla. The program initiated under the Clean and Green City project which aims for Developing Green Habits among Students for a Sustainable World.  Make Students Ambassadors of Sustainable World, Make Our Schools and its Premises as Natural as Possible, ‘Live Nature’ as the way of life, Promote Eco Friendly Practices and Products are the key objectives of the program. This is initiated by MACFAST in association with Tiruvalla Municipality.

The program started at Prince Marthanda Varma School, Peringara on a pilot basis has received wide appreciation as a successful scheme to raise environmental consciousness among students. “The students - citizens of tomorrow should be our real target for awareness and it is the only possible option to realize the dream ‘Green Environment’.  It is our duty to work for a better world and to offer the motto of ‘green world’ to students.” Fr. Pradeep Vazhatharamalayil (Principal, MACFAST) said.

“Individuals need to take a more responsible approach – and schools are the key starting point. Our aim is to develop responsible and green habits in children which will sustain in them forever. Attitude of our society has to change. So schools and students can do things differently to trigger a change in the society. Green School is the preparation for Green Leadership of tomorrow.  Our students will be the confident generation that wants to, and can, make a difference. Its teachers, students and their parents can efficiently work to achieve the dream “GREEN EARTH”. Rev. Dr. Abraham Mulamoottil (Project Director, Clean and Green City Project) said. 

Seminars have been conducted at Nicholson Higher Secondary School, Balikamadam Higher Secondary School, St. George Higher Secondary School and Rejina Mundhi Upper Primary School. The seminar comprises of film and documentary show, games, activities and different sessions on environment. Different long-term programs like SAVE ENERGY, PLASTIC FRIENDS, ORGANIC FARMING etc. are in included to ensure it experiential. Priya Jeji (Project Coordinator), Paul V Mathew (Project Officer) and Sr. Theresa lead sessions on different topics.

The Project Green School   starts at Marthoma Residential School Tiruvalla, a project jointly initiated by MACFAST and Tiruvalla Municipality. Anto Antony (Member of the Parliament) inaugurated the project. Mentioning on 'carbon credit', he reiterated the significance of tree plantation and its need in the present scenario which the environment is highly disturbed by the over exploitation of natural resources.   Indiscriminate dumping of waste at public places had been posing serious health risk even in rural Kerala and it was better to keep diseases away by maintaining a healthy environment, he added. He said children have a significant role in making people aware of the importance of conservation and the duty bestowed up on is to extend the lights green message.

Delivering the keynote address, Fr. Abraham Mulamoottil, chairman of the Pushpagiri Medical Society, said the very mission of the project is to make Thiruvalla a model, waste-free, green, clean, and healthy city by effectively implementing a viable, cost-effective and financially sustainable waste management system with active people's participation.

“What is needed is a paradigm shift in the attitude of the community from the ‘not in my backyard' (Nimby) syndrome to an ‘in my backyard (IMBY) habit by enabling the local community to segregate and dispose of the waste at source itself,” he said

Mathew Chacko, municipal vice-chairman, presided over the function. He said the Clean and Green City project was targeted at management of waste at source itself.

MP launches environmental awareness programme

Anto Antony, MP, inaugurating the school-level awareness programme as part of the Green and Clean City project at a function held at Mar Thoma Residential School auditorium in Kutappuzha near Thiruvalla on Monday.

Excessive exploitation of natural resources has disturbed the rhythm of nature, leading to natural disasters and it is high time society make an effort for the conservation of nature, said Anto Antony, MP.

He was inaugurating a school-level awareness programme as part of the Green and Clean City project, jointly sponsored by Thiruvalla municipality and the Mar Athanaseos College For Advanced Studies, Thiruvalla, (Macfast) at Mar Thoma Residential School at Kutappuzha, near Thiruvalla, on Monday.
