Green School Program gets wide attention


Green School Program is getting more attention just after its launch at Mar Thoma Residential Schools Tiruvalla. The program initiated under the Clean and Green City project which aims for Developing Green Habits among Students for a Sustainable World.  Make Students Ambassadors of Sustainable World, Make Our Schools and its Premises as Natural as Possible, ‘Live Nature’ as the way of life, Promote Eco Friendly Practices and Products are the key objectives of the program. This is initiated by MACFAST in association with Tiruvalla Municipality.
The program started at Prince Marthanda Varma School, Peringara on a pilot basis has received wide appreciation as a successful scheme to raise environmental consciousness among students. “The students - citizens of tomorrow should be our real target for awareness and it is the only possible option to realize the dream ‘Green Environment’.  It is our duty to work for a better world and to offer the motto of ‘green world’ to students.” Fr. Pradeep Vazhatharamalayil (Principal, MACFAST) said.
“Individuals need to take a more responsible approach – and schools are the key starting point. Our aim is to develop responsible and green habits in children which will sustain in them forever. Attitude of our society has to change. So schools and students can do things differently to trigger a change in the society. Green School is the preparation for Green Leadership of tomorrow.  Our students will be the confident generation that wants to, and can, make a difference. Its teachers, students and their parents can efficiently work to achieve the dream “GREEN EARTH”. Rev. Dr. Abraham Mulamoottil (Project Director, Clean and Green City Project) said. 

Seminars have been conducted at Nicholson Higher Secondary School, Balikamadam Higher Secondary School, St. George Higher Secondary School and Rejina Mundhi Upper Primary School. The seminar comprises of film and documentary show, games, activities and different sessions on environment. Different long-term programs like SAVE ENERGY, PLASTIC FRIENDS, ORGANIC FARMING etc. are in included to ensure it experiential. Priya Jeji (Project Coordinator), Paul V Mathew (Project Officer) and Sr. Theresa lead sessions on different topics.
