New Initiative in Schools to promote decentralized waste management

Immediately after the mass awareness program organized by MACFAST in different school, Municpality took initiative to distribute waste collection units in educational institutions in Tiruvalla. This was in the wake of the meeting conducted at the Municpality in connection with the awareness program. The distribution program was inaugurated by the Municpal Chairperson Smt. Linda Thomas by handing over collection units to Mr. George Varghese, Head Master, MGM Higher Secondary School, Tiruvalla.  

This is an initiative to promote the notion; segregated collection and disposal at the source itself. Linda said. MACFAST conducted awareness programs in all the schools in the Central Travancore area.  

"Separate units for bio degradable and non bio degradable waste are distributed. Same will be distributed to all other schools in the Municipal area. Municipality will take care of waste management in schools which will help the students to know about the scientific methods of waste handling. More waste bins will be distributed to schools further. Non - bio degradable wastes will be collected by the Municipal authorities at regular intervals'". Health Standing Committee Chairperson Smt. Sheela Varghese said. Mr. Philip Solaman, Principal MGM, Municipal Vice Chairman Mathew Chacko, Councilors Jiji Vattassery, Bindu Jaykumar, Gangadaran, Municipal Health Supervisor Prakash, Clean and Green Project Officer Paul V Mathew participated.
